A complete remodel and addition to a 1954 ranch home set on a steep, down-sloping site in the Oakland Hills. The objective was to create an open floor plan for entertaining, maximize views, expand the outdoor living spaces, and revitalize the home’s modernist origins. The central idea was a language of horizontal floor planes suspended and bisected by vertical structure and circulation. A material palette of dark wood with accents of chrome and color was selected to balance formal modernism with the homeowner’s casual lifestyle.
